Identifying your power cylinder

Firstly

You need to determine the bore and stroke of the power cylinder.

This can be done either by measurement or by the casing numbers if they are visible.

The product catalogue (available to download) shows the power cylinder dimensions on page 3.

Secondly

The model of cylinder needs to be identified.

The model of the position control unit should be embossed on the front cover.

The three modes of Kent positioner are:-

  • Mk4
  • Mk5
  • Mk6

The cylinders can be identified in the following ways:-

The Mk4 unit has a ‘D’ shaped piston rod, 4 connection ports (2 are blanked in normal operation).

The Mk5 and Mk6 units have a round piston rod.

Characteristics

Direct acting or reverse acting?

Direct acting, increase in signal pressure signal extends the piston rod.

Reverse acting, increase in signal pressure signal retracts the piston rod.

We can usually identify these from a photograph.
